For many years I have been fascinated by the Japanese yunomi -cup. The yunomi is a cup that is taller than wide and does not have a handle. We can enjoy its feel and texture through pur hands.
I use the vertical wall on the Yunomi as a canvas to draw and make structures on, using several layers of slips and glazes.
In the Japanese tradition ( especially in hagiyaki) , a yunomi typically bears a little footring marked with a cut under the bottom. To me this cut is a symbol of a gate or opening relflecting to and from my other work
